Sukoshi Means “A Little”
At NatureDen, we have been deeply reflecting on how to create the ideal program for homeschoolers, a group that we hold close to our hearts as we were once homeschoolers ourselves! We have tremendous admiration and respect for this community, and we are committed to exploring how forest school can meet their unique needs and desires for outdoor connection and community building. We understand that homeschooling is often misunderstood as an ultra-introverted and confined experience, and we are excited to help bust those myths by creating a vibrant and engaging learning environment that celebrates the natural world and fosters meaningful relationships with others.
Welcome to Sukoshi Wild Academy, where we believe that every child deserves to experience the magic of community-building in a natural space. As homeschooling parents ourselves, we understand the unique challenges that come with providing quality education while also managing a single income. That's why we're proud to offer forest school sessions at an affordable rate, making the benefits of outdoor learning accessible to all. Join us at Sukoshi Wild Academy, where your child can discover the joy of exploring, creating, and learning in nature.
We are passionate about providing a one-of-a-kind and rewarding experience for homeschooling families. Our forest school program fosters a deep connection with nature and promotes a strong sense of community, while also empowering learners to explore their unique identities. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to connect with the natural world and develop their full potential, and we are honored to provide this experience in a warm and supportive environment.
We believe in the power of community and the beauty of nature. Our forest school program is specially designed to bring homeschooling families together once a week in a natural and serene environment, where parents are the teachers and learners can grow and thrive.
We believe that each learner is unique and has their own talents and passions. If you are expecting your learner to always sit still and listen and do what a teacher says, this program may not be for you. Our lesson plans are based on the cyclical rhythm of the seasons, allowing our learners to connect with the natural world around them and develop a deeper appreciation for its wonders. Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on the development of social and emotional learning (SEL) skills, which are critical for building strong support for oneself and others, and forming deep-meaningful relationships that Harvard University researchers have found to be the key to a well-lived life. We believe that learning should be a fun and imaginative adventure! Our program is designed to boost learners' confidence in the wild, with survival skills incorporated into our session plans. We also infuse a healthy dose of magical enchantment to keep the imagination engaged. And of course, social games are a must for building bonds and having a blast!
We aim to create a fun and adventurous learning environment that fosters warmth and encourages our learners to explore their interests and pursue their passions. Our community is inclusive and supportive, providing a safe space where learners can express themselves freely and build meaningful connections with others. We value diversity and encourage our learners to embrace their individuality while also fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness.
Our Volunteer Leader provides weekly session plans to help guide the learning process, and with an introductory fee of only $390 per annum and $75 for supplies (whittling knife, forest school journal, and mat), our program is an absolute treasure trove of value - not to be missed! Each session is 1 hour long and held weekly, but we understand that families may want to stay back and relax, have their meals (or snacks), and spend time bonding or practising the nature crafts together after sessions, and you are most welcome to do so as you wish. Our program is available throughout the year, with the exception of June and December, as well as public holidays. We hold our enrolment once a year, for each new location, with deadlines for registration to be clearly stated on our registration page. We understand that life can get busy, so if you miss the deadline, don't worry! We will do our best to consider mid-year joining for families based on factors such as dynamics. We want to ensure that everyone has access to our program, so if you are experiencing financial hardships, we encourage you to apply for our scholarship program.
We welcome all homeschooling families to join us on this adventure in nature and education. Simply click on the appointment scheduler to sign up for available locations (new locations will be published when we appoint a location leader). If you feel called to be a location leader, we provide training every quarter for new leaders and materials at no cost to you! We warmly invite you to join us as a location leader and help build our community of learners. By clicking on the leaders call form, you can view the training dates and ensure that you can attend. As a leader, you will be given member status and have access to our specially crafted session plans. We ask that leaders commit to at least a year of sessions to fully appreciate the fruit of their hard work in building a meaningful community. It's a fulfilling and rewarding experience, and if you feel the calling to help in this adventure of learning and growing, we would love to have you join us!
We believe that every child has unique talents and interests, and we encourage autonomy in learning. If a child is not called to join in the learning activities, feel free to pursue what interests them for that segment of the session. Join us on this journey now to empower our children and build strong, supportive bonds with nature and each other!
